Two best friends, one shared goal

- to work in Yorkshire building outstanding homes.

Kyme Homes really is a labour of love, after nearly 20 years of work, both Dom and Nick, our founding directors were looking for a professional change. Each of them seeking a more rewarding, personalised approach to building. Both used to working within construction, but in roles that meant they were not getting the satisfaction of seeing their hard work being enjoyed by the purchaser, so the pair of them hatched an idea….

What if they could combine their knowledge, skills and passion for building while working alongside a friend? What if they could do what they loved, day in, day out, not just in their spare time? What if they could work close to home, in an area they love, building homes for people they understand while being able to spend free time with their families, rather than commuting for hours each week?

This is how Kyme Homes was started, tentatively at first, to check the dynamics of their friendship, formed when they met at University in 1996, could translate to working together in business. Once the waters had been tested, and it was clear their strong friendship would work as business partners too, Kyme Homes moved into what it knows best – finding sites and developing high quality homes. With both directors involved from the start to finish of each project they get the satisfaction of seeing the results of their work, delivering outstanding homes for buyers that they love to meet.

Time has flown since that dream was first discussed, back in 2015, with many new houses built because of their determination to make this dream a reality. Importantly, you can still find Dom and Nick enjoying time together outside of work too, often over a pint, or perhaps on a bike ride or a walk with their families and dogs, normally talking about building!

Nick looks after the land and property acquisition, planning, finance and sales operations of Kyme Homes. He is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and has been working in the property industry for over 20 years.

Nick began his career working for international surveying firms gaining experience in all aspects of the property market. He then worked for a Yorkshire based family-run business broadening his knowledge in the construction, house building and commercial development sectors. By his late twenties, Nick had been entirely responsible for the development of a number of large retail warehouses across the country. Subsequently, he decided to launch his own development consultancy business, which he successfully ran for 7 years, before returning to his passion of being involved in the construction process, establishing Kyme Homes as a local independent house builder with Dom.

Within Kyme Homes, Dom deals with the day to day operational running of the business and is actively involved in every aspect of the development process from conception, through to completion. Dom has a wealth of construction knowledge, an eye for detail and a passion for creating homes of distinction.

Dom has over 20 years’ experience working in the construction industry. He began his career as a site engineer on a new build luxury hotel in Sheffield and has subsequently managed a variety of major construction projects across the country  including high end residential schemes and large scale commercial and leisure developments, including Xscape in Castleford, where he was a site manager.

In 2015, Dom moved away from managing large-scale projects for national building contractors in order to concentrate on his own smaller residential developments, and can claim an accolade for having one of his houses featured on national TV, receiving a resounding endorsement from Phil Spencer.

Simon Biggs Site Manager

After working alongside Kyme Homes as a self-employed joiner on every new build the Company has done to date, Simon joined the team in March 2022 as Site Manager.

Simon started his career 20 years ago with a carpentry & joinery apprenticeship, working for a renowned local building company, followed by a Series 6000 course, where he achieved distinctions across all areas of the course.

For the last 16 years Simon has been a self-employed joiner, working with several local companies (including Kyme Homes), and has been involved in some of the most prestigious new builds in Yorkshire & Oxfordshire (including the houses of Lords and Ladies!).

Simon prides himself on his high standards of work and service and will continue to be involved in the joinery aspects of the business, whilst also focussing on the duties of site management.

Hugo Burns-Danforth Assistant Site Manager
TechCIOB

Hugo joined Kyme Homes in July 2022, following the completion of a Level 3, ‘Construction of The Built Environment’ course. Hugo was our first apprentice completing a Level 4 ‘Construction Site Supervisor’ apprenticeship with us upon joining.

In September 2025, Hugo became a Technical Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (TechCiob), this accreditation recognises both the qualifications and experience Hugo has gained since joining the business.

Originating from an agricultural background, Hugo seamlessly transferred his hard-working ethos, invaluable telehandler and machine operating talent from the farmyard to the building site. Hugo’s passion for agriculture hasn’t faded, however he has quickly adapted to the construction industry in the new build housing sector.

Hugo embraces his responsibilities with dedication and an infectious enthusiasm in the daily running of our projects, playing a huge part in the day to day running of the business and its aspirations. Contributing from conception to completion, Hugo is involved in the everyday logistics and implementation of site operations.

Tom Wright Apprentice Site Supervisor

Tom joined the business in September 2025 following the completion of a 2-year Level 2 apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery. Throughout this experience Tom gained an appreciation of what operating on construction sites is like through the eyes of the trades; and is where his ambition grew to further his knowledge of construction sites and begin moving into managerial roles.

Tom has joined the business as an Apprentice Site Supervisor as part of his Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor apprenticeship at Leeds College of Building. With one day each week spent at College working towards this qualification, the rest of the week is spent on site where he continues to learn new carpentry skills as well as gaining more knowledge in the overall delivery of a project.

It was almost inevitable that Tom would pursue a career in site management. A family history of home building and the fact that he used to ask for toy tools for every Christmas and birthday meant a future in construction one way or another! Kyme Homes is thrilled to support Tom on his career journey and hope that he fulfills his aim of becoming fully competent in the supervising and running of a construction site from conception to completion, with the reward of developing high quality builds.
